MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION CLIMAT E With the inﬂuence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf Stream, some 45 miles offshore, Wilmington & NC’s Cape Fear Coast enjoys a temperate subtropical climate year-round. Cooled by sea and river breezes, summer temperatures are usually in the 80’s. Seasons are mild, with 212 sunshine days and a mean average temperature of 63.7 degrees Fahrenheit. Average rainfall is 50.85 inches. Snow is rare, and the average winter temperature is about 50 degrees. Children less than age 5 and less than 40 pounds must be properly restrained in the back seat if the vehicle is equipped with an active front passenger-side air bag. Children less than age 8 and less than 80 pounds must ride in a weight-appropriate child restraint or booster seat certiﬁed to meet federal safety standards. When a child reaches age 8 (regardless of weight) or 80 pounds (regardless of age), a properly-ﬁtted safety belt may be used. The law applies to all passenger vehicles with both in-state and out-of-state registration. Motorists will be ﬁned for failure to obey seat belt laws. Failure to obey child restraint laws results in two points on your drivers’ license and a ﬁne. North Carolina law requires drivers to use headlights whenever windshield wipers are used for inclement weather and motorcyclists are required to wear a helmet and use head lights at all times.
