INFORMATION Rules And Safety • ATV permits are issued to Currituck County property owners only. These permits are available at the government offices in Corolla and at the Historic Currituck Courthouse. Operators of ATVs must be at least 16 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, liability insurance, and a permit issued by Currituck County. • Jet skis are not allowed to be launched on the ocean at any location on the Currituck Outer Banks. Riding jet skis is permitted in the Currituck Sound; however, there are no public ramps on the sound side of the four-wheeldrive area. • Fireworks are extremely hazardous because of dry beach grasses, closelybuilt wood structures, high winds, and other factors. It is illegal to launch fireworks that are self-propelled or ones that fly, spin or explode. Purchasers are responsible for making sure the fireworks they buy are legal in North Carolina.
