Bay Breeze Golf Course, located inside Keesler Air Force Base, features water hazards that come into play on nine of the 18 holes. This military course allows civilian play with proper identification at gate, and advanced reservations are required. Originally a nine hole course built to accommodate tourists staying at the Great Southern Hotel, the course became known nationwide, attracting such golfing greats as Bobby Jones, Frances Ouimet, Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen, Henry Cotton, Jock Hutchinson, Collette Vare’ and Babe Didrickson Zaharias. Byrd, is oper ated by Morale, Welfare & Recreation, and located inside the Naval Construction Battalion Center. The course is a beautiful, challenging course offering trees, rolling terrain, man made ponds, sand traps, and the signature hole is #5, requires a tee shot over water. A well equipped pro shop is available with pull carts, electric carts, and golfing equipment. Course is open to civilians, but access to the course is from 28th Street, one half mile west of Canal Road. A valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance are required upon entering the base. The 18 hole course features 6,561 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. Designed by Brent Williams, the course features narrow fair ways lined with trees and the greens are medium in size and speed. Water hazards come into play on at least five sepa rate occasions. The signature hole is #13, a 420 yard, par 4, requiring a shot over water. The 18 hole course features 6,008 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72.
