The Outer Banks 2009 Official Travel Guide - (Page 5) OUTER BANKS TIPS FOR PLANNING YOUR TRIP Now that you've chosen The Outer Banks of North Carolina for your dream vacation, here are some tips for planning your trip: • Traveling with a large family or group? Carpooling to the destination is a great way to help protect the environment and save on gas. Half the fun of being here can be getting here! • If you're staying in a vacation home, renting some items such as bed linens, towels, beach chairs and sun umbrellas can lighten your travel load and reduce the time spent packing and unpacking. There are several companies on The Outer Banks who rent a variety of household and beach items for affordable rates; and they deliver and pick up all items. Ask your rental company for a referral to a reliable supplier. • If you are visiting in the fall or spring, be sure to get your copy of the 2009 Getaway card. You'll save up to 20% at over 100 locations. Visit one of our four welcome centers (locations on pages 8, 9, 14, and 16) or visit outerbanks.org. • Most people who visit The Outer Banks in the peak summer months and choose to stay in a rental home arrive on either Saturday or Sunday. To avoid the crunch of weekly arrivals and departures, consider contacting your rental company for alternative check in days. Several rental companies now offer this option. • Or, why not arrive on Thursday or Friday; stay one or two nights in a hotel and then check into your rental home? • If you're a member of the American Automobile Association (AAA) or the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA), get a TripTik® for your journey. 5 http://www.outerbanks.org
