The city ranked number one in a study of farmers’ markets and community gardens per capita. Pittsburgh and its surrounding area have 31 farmers’ markets and farm stands, and vacant lots are being turned into urban gardens. With 206 school and community gardens, the city has one for every 1,600 people! After Dark When it comes to nightlife in Pittsburgh, you’ve got plenty of options. The Cultural District is hip and happening with numerous eateries and upscale bars. From the Backstage Bar to a rooftop bar, downtown after dusk is the place to be. At night, the Strip District takes on an industrial, urban vibe that’s big on energy and entertainment. Wine and dine at any of the many cool clubs and restaurants that line Smallman Street and Penn Avenue. The South Side, with its long stretch of bars, clubs and eateries, is a must for any visitor – especially the under-30 crowd. From neighborhood bars to upscale nightclubs with live music, there is something for everyone. You might want to do the “South Side Crawl” by visiting as many bars as you please! For the more sophisticated crowd, head farther up Carson Street to the SouthSide Works, near the Birmingham Bridge. This is a favorite among locals and is considered a mecca for eateries, shopping and entertainment. Downriver you’ll find Station Square, one of Pittsburgh’s top nightspots. This 52-acre dining, shopping and entertainment destination features more than two dozen restaurants, bars and attractions. Laugh the night away at a comedy club or bar hop among the 20+ bars and nightclubs. See live music at an intimate bar show or just dance your feet off at one of the many clubs. The East End neighborhoods of East Liberty, Lawrenceville, Bloomfield and Shadyside also have an abundance of locally owned, intimate places where you’ll find a great music scene, interesting clubs and friendly people. The North Shore is another new nightlife hot spot with numerous bars and restaurants. And, it’s not just for “game day” anymore.
