In 1828, the Delaware and Hudson Canal Company built America’s first million-dollar private enterprise, a 108-mile man-made canal that linked the Pennsylvania anthracite fields and New York Harbor. The Roebling Aqueduct, a National Landmark, was built 75 years before the Brooklyn Bridge, making it the country’s oldest suspension bridge. CULTURAL ASSETS Literature buffs will love the Zane Grey Museum in Lackawaxen, a town that heavily inspired the works of this legendary American writer. Another popular stop is Grey Towers, the home of the founder of the USDA Forest Service, Gifford Pinchot.
