Racine County 2008 Visitors Guide - (Page 14) GREAT FUN ON A GREAT LAKE EKAL TAERG A NO NUF TAERG A Day at the Beach Provides the Time of Your Life North Beach is a top tourist stop! Visitors who arrive at the 50-acre, lakeside park marvel at the beach’s vast stretch of natural beauty. The well-groomed sandy beach offers 2,500 feet of uninterrupted Lake Michigan shoreline. Ideal for swimming, sunning, splashing or simply slowing down to savor the view, the North Beach area is worthy of blue-ribbon status! In fact, the Clean Beaches Council in Washington, D.C., agrees. Racine’s North Beach is the only Wisconsin beach to earn the council’s prestigious Blue Wave designation. The clean, healthy and environmentally well-managed beach continually meets 33 stringent criteria for health and safety. These high standards make North Beach and Lake Michigan even more enticing to guests who seek an enjoyable day of sand and surf. EVP Pro Am Beach Volleyball Tour Dig, set, spike! The professional athletes from the EVP Pro Am Beach Volleyball Tour return to the sandy courts at North Beach on July 12. A fun regional event is planned for the following day. The event and its venue received rave reviews during the past couple of years. Racine was named the "Host City of theYear" for 2006 and 2007 and was recognized for the excellent cooperation and enthusiastic support supplied by the county's people and promoters. Racine served it up and beat out powerhouses such as Houston, Los Angeles, and Miami. With the breathtaking views, an incredible location, and convenient amenities, North Beach is slated to become a major sand-volleyball mecca. It’s no ordinary day at the beach when the EVP tour comes to town. Playful pathway to paradise North Beach continues to garner widespread attention from tourists and residents, and it is a hub of activity throughout a good portion of the year. The new 9.8-mile Lake Michigan Pathway runs from north to south along the lakeshore and allows pedestrians and bicyclists easy access to the beach. It also connects to the Root River Pathway, which runs east and west into the city and beyond. Whether you hike, bike or drive to North Beach, it will be worth the trip. The community-built Kids Cove Playground is situated adjacent to the beach. Kids and little pirates can climb, swing and frolic in the lakefront park. The North Beach Oasis offers snacks and beverages and regularly presents live music for all to enjoy. Car shows and art fairs are held during the summer months at this nautical retreat. Speedboats, jet skis, sailboats and catamarans glide past the beach as the lake’s waves lap the sandy shore. The nearby historic Wind Point Lighthouse overlooks the coast and provides a welcoming beacon of light for boats and their captains. EVP Pro Am Volleyball match on North Beach.
