Racine County 2008 Visitors Guide

GREAT FUN ON A GREAT LAKE Spirit of Racine Triathlon Weekend VI Swim, bike, run! Spirit of Racine Triathlon Weekend VI is planned for July 19 and 20. The multi-sport event attracts internationally recognized as well as accomplished local athletes to swim, bike and run through a scenic route in Racine County. The Blue Wave Sprint distance competition for up to 1,000 athletes is Saturday, and the Spirit of Racine Triathlon Distance on Sunday welcomes as many as 2,000 men and women to the starting line. The Blue Wave Sprint triathlon has a 750 meter (.47 mile) swim, 20 km (12.4 Mile) bike, and a 5 km (3.1 mile) run. The Spirit of Racine Triathlon is much more challenging as it requires participants to swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles and run 13.1 miles. Athletes plunge into Lake Michigan’s chilly waters shortly after the sun peeks over the eastern horizon. Following a picturesque but grueling bike trip, the final leg of the competition is a flat-andfast run to the finish. The winner is expected to complete this rigorous challenge in less than four hours. Spirited Racine County residents serve as the event’s cheerleaders and volunteers, and athletes and spectators can celebrate at the lake following the race. A day at the beach There is no better place to spend a day. Come and play at North Beach. Put on your bikini or your Bermuda shorts, slather on the sunscreen, grab your towels, bring your buckets and shovels, and get ready for a relaxing, fun-filled day at the beach. Bring your friends, pack a picnic, and pedal along the pathway. North Beach is sure to be one of your favorite Racine County destinations. You’ll have Great Fun on a Great Lake!
