Specialty shops, unique boutiques and art galleries lure tourists who are seeking the perfect gift for their special someone. Old-fashioned, personal service is provided by shopkeepers. Gallery Nights and First Fridays shopping events offer fun, social outings while you shop. The open-air Market on the Square and a farmers’ market are seasonal favorites for guests to the Downtown area. Music at the Monument is a Friday lunchtime tradition during the summer in downtown Racine. Imagine yourself at the lakefront in Downtown Racine. As you look to the east, you’ll witness the Great Lake’s natural beauty as far as the eye can see. As you look to the west, you’ll see boundless opportunities for great fun! Downtown Racine is the place where you can shop and play. And it won’t be long until you’ll want to work and live here, too. With an award-winning design, the Racine Art Museum (RAM) at 441 Main St. houses internationally recognized exhibits and contemporary crafts collection. The Racine Heritage Museum, 701 Main St., connects our present with our historic beginnings. Exhibits honor fallen astronaut Laura Salton Clark, the Underground Railroad, local industries and inventions and so much more. Live music and live theater also are found in Downtown. Music on the Monument presents performers to the outdoor lunch-hour crowd during the summer, and the Sixth Street Theatre brings Racine’s finest actors to the stage. Art and culture The vast assortment of artistic, enriching and intellectual offerings in Racine attracts discerning visitors to Downtown. The streets and storefronts are adorned with one-of-a-kind decorated fiberglass creatures each summer as part of Downtown’s annual public art event. Other art fairs arrive on the scene throughout the warmer months. Celebrations and events Pick any weekend of the year, and there will be something to do in Downtown Racine. A number of parades and road races step off in Downtown. The Fourth of July and holiday parades, and the Lighthouse Run scheduled for June 21.
