From the new Raleigh Convention Center and $600 million renovation of RDU International Airport’s Terminal C, to new hotels including the Marriott Raleigh City Center, to expansion at the N.C. Museum of Art and the Green Square Project at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, Greater Raleigh is experiencing a $3 billion renaissance. The Raleigh Convention Center, opening in September, will provide business travelers more than 500,000 square feet of meeting space, and also host events and concerts on the Festival Caption here building. Take a stroll down Fayetteville Street where new dining, retail and nightlife options abound, or experience City Market, where improvements to the original 19th century cobblestone streets and historic storefronts are taking place. City Plaza, located in front of the new Raleigh Convention Center, is destined to be the hub for outdoor art and socialization in the downtown area. The N.C. Museum of Natural Science’s Green Square Project will feature a nature center and investigative science lab, providing hands on training for young science enthusiasts and professional researchers, while the new Contemporary Art Museum will establish itself as an urban cultural center offering gallery space, classrooms, residential and retail offerings. Downtown Raleigh isn’t the only part of Wake County experiencing growth and change. The N.C. Museum of Art in west Raleigh will complete a $138 million expansion in 2010 that will feature new galleries, sculpture gardens, and one of the largest Rodin collections in is already a premier destination for shopping and dining, but the Renaissance Raleigh North Hills Hotel, to be completed in Fall 2008, will spa services, an upscale restaurant and meeting space. The Westin Raleigh, once complete in 2009, will be the area’s tallest building, not only housing a luxury property but also a rooftop bar and restaurant, condos and retail space.
