Southern Breeze 2007 Summer Issue - (Page 6) editor’s letter winning streak I’m pleased to report that Southern Breeze is getting its fair share of accolades from the publishing world. In February the Southern Breeze Wine + Culinary Festival received a Bronze FAME Award for Best Series of Events from Folio: magazine. And we were the ONLY regional magazine to receive one. See for yourself why we won: you have two chances to check out our next Wine + Culinary Festivals—May 18–20 in Orange Beach, Alabama, and June 15–17 in Baton Rouge. Go to www.southernbreeze.com/winefest for more info. The Magazine Association of the Southeast also showed Southern Breeze some love with two GAMMA Awards presented at a ceremony in Atlanta in April. We received the Silver Award for General Excellence for our Summer, Fall, and Winter 2006 issues and the Winter 2006 issue was given an Honorable Mention in the Best Single Issue category. If that’s not enough—and seriously, it really should be—Southern Breeze will be making its movie debut soon! We have been asked for permission by Universal Pictures to use an issue of Southern Breeze as part of the set decoration for a movie called The Better Man. Set in Georgia, the movie stars Martin Lawrence, James Earl Jones, and Cedric the Entertainer. Southern Breeze will be used to identify the characters as Southern…and with impeccable taste in reading material! I’ll have more information on this as the movie’s opening approaches. But until you can flock to your local multi-plex to see us on the big screen, be sure to take this issue—one of our most diverse ever—with you as you slap on your flipflops, lather on the suntan lotion, and grab an ice cold mojito, and hit the beach… Summer is here and it’s going to be a scorcher! FEEDBACK— NOTES FROM OUR READERS My family spent the weekend at The Beach Club in Gulf Shores and our condo had Southern Breeze in it. I was so happy to have something good to read while sitting out on the balcony. It is one of my favorite magazines. Jayna Leach Panama City Beach, FL I LOVE THIS MAGAZINE!!! The Spring 2007 issue is full of wonderful nostalgic photos and articles—I cannot put it down! I lived in New Orleans 1938–1973 spending all my summers in Bay St. Louis, MS. Moved to Lafayette in 1973–1996. Moved to Bay St./ Waveland, MS 1996–2005. Lost all my “stuff” in Katrina while renting a cottage on the beach for seven years in Waveland. Now living back in Lafayette, LA and will more than likely stay here unitl I’m pushing up daisies. So you can well imagine how I love each and every page. I can hardly wait till the next issue! Despite my love of Sirius satellite radio and mix tapes, I’ve started plugging in my iPod in the car and as far as entertainment at the gym, it’s a must-have. Since mine has video, I can catch up on the latest episodes of Lost or Law & Order: SVU as I shed tonnage on the elliptical machine. Never has working up a sweat been so entertaining! www.apple.com 6 s o u t h e r n b re e z e . c o m http://www.southernbreeze.com/winefest http://www.apple.com http://southernbreeze.com
