As a kid, I watched the Falstaff sign blink on the horizon, and the hulking Dixie Brewery seemed like a mystical fortress. When I grew older—and especially after I moved away—I came to appreciate Dixie’s unique taste. Paired with a roast beef po’boy or a dozen raw oysters, Dixie became a part of every homecoming. After Katrina, I watched for news of Dixie. Losing this institution would have been a sad blow to New Orleans. Fortunately, Dixie’s owners are committed to the brewery—and the city. And that’s something I can drink to. T hat’’s easy: Dustin L. Gontarski | 251-968-4600 ’ try harder regional advertising managers to behave John B. A New Orleans native now living in North Carolina, Chad currently is the editor of AAA Living, a lifestyle and travel magazine distributed throughout the Midwest. When he’s not playing with his two-year-old daughter, Hannah Grace, or sitting on the back porch with his wife, Beth, he enjoys writing about his travel experiences. While he misses the people and cuisine of the Gulf Coast, he’s learned to appreciate North Carolina-style barbecue and bluegrass. EDITORIAL Spend m To learn a editor | Mark A.
