Southern Breeze 2008 Spring Issue - (Page 32) 3 Not Your Average Joe There's a new option for early morning viewers who want poli- tics and opinion with their beignets and coffee. Morning Joe, which airs weekdays on MSNBC, features Gulf Coast native and former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough. Featuring interviews with top newsmakers and politicians, along with more in-depth analysis than you'll find on other morning shows, Morning Joe fills a much-needed niche for the morning person not concerned with strudel recipes or the latest doings of Britney, Lindsay, or Paris, or shoe-shopping tips and the latest fad diets. A 1985 University of Alabama graduate, Joe served in Congress from 1994 to 2001 representing Florida's 1st District. He previously hosted Scarborough Country in primetime on MSNBC. But that was not his first foray into the media; he was also the publisher and editor of The Florida Sun in Pensacola. And even though Morning Joe is filmed at 30 Rock, deep in the heart of Manhattan, Joe, his wife Susan, and their three children proudly call Pensacola home. Is Joe opinionated? You better believe it! His lively exchanges with guests, regular co-host Willie Geist, and news maven Mika Brzezinski make for spirited discussions on a variety of topics but politics is always front and center. Trust me, after your first viewing, your cup of Morning Joe will runneth over five days a week! And with the 2008 presidential election about to hit its stride, you absolutely will not find better coverage in the morning…or any other time of day! —Mark A. As this form of vacation makes its mark on the travel industry, the Coastal region is making arrangements to create true “culinary destinations.” In addition to dining at the area’s best restaurants or sipping local libations, culinary tourists now have the opportunity to attend food and wine festivals, participate in cooking classes, and even travel along culinary trails.
