Congressional Medal of Honor Museum A new, national treasure has opened at Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum on Charleston Harbor. The Congressional Medal of Honor Museum, located on board the historic World War II aircraft carrier USS Yorktown, explains the history of the medal and brings to life the stories of the brave Americans who received our nation’s highest honor for valor. A museum highlight, the Combat Tunnel exhibit, uses sight, sound and feel to give visitors a sense of what it’s like to be in the chaos of battle. The new “Freedom Isn’t Free” exhibit pays tribute to the first Medal of Honor recipients from the Civil War as well as the first recipients from the current War on Terror, young Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice to save the lives of others.
