Vermont Winter Vacation Guide 2008 - (Page 13) Mr. Pickwick’s: Stowe Imagine yourself in a tiny English village pub sipping British ale and dipping a crusty wedge of bread into a steaming bowl of mulligatawny soup or a steamy steak and kidney pie. If you’re craving something a little more familiar, try the Caesar salad, the ginger beer marinated calamari served with spicy fresh watercress, or traditional British fish and chips made with fresh haddock. If you’re feeling adventurous, you might select one of the game dishes for which this restaurant is famous. Choose from ostrich fillet served with roast portabella, beet greens, polenta napoleon and fontina cheese, or Vermont venison grilled with a fig caramelized onion boursin tartlet, wilted spinach, and cranberry black pepper balsamic reduction. Wine Spectator magazine has honored Mr. Pickwick’s as the recipient of their Award of Excellence. Not only is the wine list vast, but the single malt scotch and British ale selections are impressive. Finish off your meal with a cheese course of Stilton and port or a traditional English sticky toffee pudding and coffee. After a day of sightseeing or skiing in Stowe, Mr. Pickwick’s hearty fare is sure to satisfy any appetite.
