Vermont Winter Vacation Guide 2008 - (Page 9) THE PONDS AT BOLTON VALLEY RESORT Last summer, Bolton Valley Resort opened its exciting new event venue, The Ponds at Bolton Valley Resort. Although the stellar mountain views are breathtaking, the outdoor landscaping and the building’s beautiful interior are equally noteworthy and reminiscent of an historic vacation lodge with a Vermont flare, providing a lovely setting for weddings, parties and corporate events. “Walking through the heavy double doors at The Ponds at Bolton Valley Resort, meeting planners and bridesto-be immediately know that they’re somewhere special,” said Jeanne-Marie Gand, Vice President of Marketing Sales and Communications at Bolton Valley Resort. “The architectural craftsmanship is stunning both elegant and rustic light streams in through panoramic windows, and guests are inspired in this natural environment.” Bolton Valley’s village area is conveniently located 20 miles from downtown Burlington, Vermont’s largest city, though the word “city” is relative to Vermont standards. The drive to Bolton does not provide the usual access road glitz of ski shops and eateries. Getting off the highway and winding up toward Bolton’s base village, visitors often think of Bolton as a hidden gem because upon arrival, everything one needs or wants is there. Bailey’s at the Valley Restaurant and The Ponds are part of the Vermont Fresh Network which provides the most vibrant local ingredients. Bailey’s offers fine cuisine, featuring a menu with an international and creative flare; James Moore Tavern and Restaurant is a cozy pub with a view of Bolton; Fireside Flatbread serves up tasty pizza from their brick oven. Add to that a hotel and sports center, a full service ski and rental shop and a mountain with 64 trails, including exciting backcountry terrain, night skiing and cross country skiing, and it’s guaranteed to keep one busy. Mad River Glen’s Single Chair Gets a 21st Century Facelift Mad River Glen Ski Area is known for their red and white “Ski It If You Can” bumper stickers and for their iconic Single Chair. On opening day in December 2007, the beloved old Single Chair will be gone, replaced by a historically restored version. The new chairlift will have the same lift capacity, about 500 skiers per hour, as the old lift. To the untrained eye it will look virtually identical to its predecessor but will have new and restored components. The decision was made at the April 2005 annual meeting where 81% of Mad River Glen Cooperative’s skier-shareholders voted in favor to authorize the restoration rather than other options like a new high speed lift (gasp). To raise money, Mad River Glen initiated the Single Chair Capital Campaign with the goal of collecting $1.54 million in tax-deductible donations.
