Winston-Salem, North Carolina Official 2009 Visitor Guide - (Page 7) Bethania with ease–use The Great Wagon Road to Wachovia driving narrative available from the Winston-Salem Visitor Center or CulturalCorridors.com. Make your first stop the Bethania Visitor Center, in the recently restored Wolff-Moser House (1792), where Terry Ramsbotham is the manager. Pick up a brochure and map for a self-guided walking tour of the town, which will take at least an hour. But to get started, let Terry show you around the house and tell you something about it, “Johann Adam Wolff built it, and it is an excellent example of a Moravian farmhouse.” You will quickly discover that history can be experienced here in heaping portions. The Moravians have a penchant for preservation; buildings, drawings of those buildings, alterations to those buildings, deeds for those buildings, utensils and furnishing for those buildings, birth and death records, diaries and journals of people who lived in the buildings, and much more. While visitors can learn much about Bethania’s 250 years, there is a large, rich, unknown chapter of its history still to be investigated by archaeologists and interpreted by historians. Meanwhile, you can explore more Moravian culture and history at nearby Old Salem Museum & Gardens and Historic Bethabara Park.
