I do implants, ortho, and I do have a CEREC. I have looked at almost all the machines, still can't decide which one. I almost pulled the trigger and bought the J. Morita R100 with a ceph. But now our Canadian dollar is tanking again and price is going up by the day. My questions are: Is it worth trying to ﬁgure out which one is the best CBCT? Is there really that much of a difference between one unit and another? Assuming you are buying from one of the big suppliers. My choices are Patterson, Henry Schein, Sinclair, and Carestream. I am going to buy from one of them since I want the support if anything goes wrong. Well at least I want to be able to yell at someone in person since I have a rep from each one coming to my ofﬁce once a month, except from Carestream, no reps there. Are we splitting hairs when comparing most machines out there today? Will not all of them give us diagnostic info that we need? Yes one machine might have a slightly clearer image than another but does it really make a difference in our day-to-day needs? Should I just buy one that is reasonably priced and does not make my patients glow in the dark when they go home? One dilemma I had was do I need a large ﬁeld of view (FOV) and use the scan for ortho, or do I buy one with a ceph attachment? I decided to go with a ceph attachment and a medium FOV unit when I almost signed on the dotted line for the J. Morita unit. One of the dental reps told me that J. Morita by far makes the best CBCT's without a question in his mind. He is not a J. Morita rep. He said if you want a best quality image and quality build buy J. Morita. So based on my research and his advice I almost bought the R100. But since I am a bit of a procrastinator I didn't pull the trigger, now the Canadian dollar is tanking and price is going up. Does buying a Sirona unit make sense since I have a CEREC? But I deﬁnitely don't like Sirona as a company and the way they do business. Are there enough beneﬁts to the integration of Sirona CBCT with CEREC to justify buying their XG unit? Morita unit was the best one on the market. It was also the most expensive one on the market at that time. At least the price has come way down from what I was quoted. I ended up with a Prexion. I'm very happy with it and paid about $120,000 with tax. ■ NOV 4 2014 ImagingInSite Member Since: 10/20/14 Post: 10 of 52 $120,000 for a CBCT is so 2013 (even higher before that). Pricing has come down signiﬁcantly since then. Most machines are landing in the $90,000 range for Pan & CT while 3-in-1's with cephalometric option hovers just around $115,000. Some options are even less.
