I use it and just saw a recall that had a bubble chip out on the occlusal. I am not sure why I am getting voids all of a sudden. I have been using heated composite for many years and it never happened until the last year or so. I am frustrated and want to improve what I am doing. I don't think I have seen a single void on X-ray since I started using it. No complaints of sensitivity and no signs of breakage or anything else with it. I wouldn't bother trying to put flowable on buccal and lingual walls like you described. I think that may be what is contributing to your problem with voids. Just bond, fill with SDR, cure, cap with composite, and cure. Self-level of SDR is awesome. I am sure Dentsply would be happy to do samples. ■ 6/28/2016 mossb77 Member Since: 08/29/08 Post: 14 of 36 I used to use SureFil but found a lot of gaps at the margins. I always found it wasn't a perfect prep, or it was deep and narrow on a root it pulled up and it didn't look sealed. I don't use flow at all right now. I am using regular comp on the buccal and lingual walls. Could the voids be excess bond on the microbrush when I condense? I dry it before using it but there still could be more on it. ■ 6/28/2016 rdharris Member Since: 02/28/13 Post: 15 of 36 Are you prepping your boxes wide enough for restorative access? I started out as a military dentist and did mostly good old amalgam slot Class IIs. For small lesions you can make these boxes for amalgam really conservative, like only 2 or 3 mm wide mesio-distally, and still easily get a good dense amalgam fill using a very small condenser. When I got into private practice and started doing mostly composites, I quickly found it extremely hard to fill such a narrow box without voids! Making the box form just a little bit bigger, just enough to allow the tip of the composite carpule to fit down in there even a bit, makes everything much easier. Another thought to try. You mention the plastic wedges moving around. Have you tried using the old birch-wood wedges? Put sectional matrices in first, then you can jam a wooden wedge in there with a little more force than the plastic might allow, it will help keep everything from moving around on you while you drop a Garrison or V-ring on. ■ 6/28/2016 WTP Member Since: 01/02/04 Post: 16 of 36 Great advice here. I hate placing my matrix system and then realizing that the composite tip doesn't even fit in the box, nor any condensers. Then you're just guessing if it's getting filled.
