We got plenty of instruction but it was always just a demo and then we had to reproduce it. I’m looking for a manual or book that would have the different wire bending techniques and their applications in clinical practice that I can use as a reference. Any recommendations? Mostly, when it comes to wire bending, the best advice that comes to mind is to practice, practice, practice. Practice makes perfect. When I was a resident, we had an exercise where we had to bend round and rectangular wires into every conceivable loop that fit a template. I’m sure that someone in charge at your residency must have a photocopy of the exercise template. You can also bend the alphabet. Save your money. n FEB 6 2009 I sucked at wire bending my entire first year. Having to bend all those Hawley bows used to make me so frustrated and upset. Then I went to Tweed second year. It sucks in a way that boot camp would suck, although the instructors try to make it a decent time. But now I don’t sweat when it comes to bending intra-oral wires and Hawley bows. We have an opportunity to go but are still undecided at this point. It would be nice to strengthen my wire-bending skills but if this would be something I could do at home by just practicing, I’d rather save some money. It emphasized the 10-2 mechanics much more than bending. Bending templates and exercises would help. In residency we had to make all of our own Hawleys – as well as those of the third years – which made us have to be goo d.
