I am curious why you state that it is important to pull the retainer anteriorly with the floss as hard as you can while you cure the adhesive? Wire Bending Best Direct Bonding Protocol Best Direct I find that to be a good test for the fit of the wire. If it deflects too much when you pull on the floss, it probably isn't adapted well enough. A little deflection is OK, but it shouldn't move too much. Also, by bonding it on one side first, when you pull to bond the other side, less deflection will occur because it is secured. Good adaptation of the wire is important. Note that I recommend pulling hard, but at the same time, you are pushing back with your thumb. So you are really squeezing the wire between the floss on the lingual and your thumb on the labial. This will prevent opening of spaces while making the wire in very tight contact with the teeth. In the past, I only pulled hard to the anterior and I occasionally had some space develop between the teeth. If you don't pull tight, you will see some teeth able to rotate sometimes. Passive doesn't work. I would estimate that I have at least 95 percent success both with prevention of any relapse and with lack of breakage over a long period of time. I never get that with a Hawley or Essix and I never got that kind of success when I've bonded to every tooth. One always seems to come loose. There is a theory that TMA wire allows for flexure of the cuspids without breakage of the wire or bond. I believe that is true. Or, it may be that just having a long span with any kind of wire will work; it is probably the lack of flexibility due to the short span of wire between the teeth when you bond every tooth that causes breakage. n MAR 22 2013 thomasgessel Member Since: 11/21/08 Post: 5 of 36 Thanks for the video!
