What the ...?! That's amazing. I wasn't familiar with Filemaker so I checked out the website-very, very interesting. Did you create your own platform using Filemaker or did someone
set up Orthospeed for you? Sorry for all the questions, but you have really piqued my interest.
Filemaker looks like something that could be a great way to organize an orthodontic office
and have control over every detail-which, I must admit as a control freak, really appeals to me. ■

The program was written by an orthodontist for personal usage. He has used it for about 10
years; I am a friend so I have it. But, I understand it will be available to the public soon.
I think most programs can do this stuff; I do think the scheduling is unique to Orthospeed.
I think that I'm a control freak, too! I want my staff to do as little as possible. I want their jobs to
be easy. Then they will be happy and friendly. Also, they will be easier to replace and will not "own"
the practice by their nonreplaceable skills. If a computer can do the job, I say let the computer do
it. We never have a lost chart or missing X-ray. I want the office to look as if it is all simple to run.
If a staff member moves, not a big deal; the computer inventory is all current and ready for the
next person. We don't have a special scheduling person who knows the "correct way" to schedule,
because the calendar template system controls that. So anyone can schedule-even patients. ■

Orthoease, now called Wave Ortho, also runs on Filemaker and can be run on Macs or PCs.
I have preset notes for common appointment types that can be inserted with three clicks.
Then I edit as needed for that particular patient. If you're going to use digital charts, you have to
