message board Patient with Lost U1s A growing patient with a three-unit bridge needs more space. Does it make sense to put the canines into play to mitigate her missing U1s? HJS Member Since: 01/07/06 Post: 1 of 7 This is an 18-year-old patient with a history of trauma. She lost her U1s when she was 9 years old. She went to dentist and received a three-unit bridge. Today, she referred to me from her dentist who wants to remove the old bridge and open space for missing U1 and make a new bridge. My first thought was to first send her back to treat all carious teeth. As for treatment-planning this case, I see canine substitution and replacing the old bridge with a new one for two central incisors. Any thoughts are welcome. ■ 2/26/2018 justinudm Member Since: 09/29/14 Post: 2 of 7 HJS Member Since: 01/07/06 Post: 3 of 7 16 Refer her back to the dentist with a note explaining all active decay needs to be fi xed before ortho can begin. Only after decay is gone would I proceed, but your plan sounds reasonable. ■ 2/26/2018 Thank you. ■ JULY/AUGUST 2018 // orthotown.com 2/27/2018http://www.orthotown.com
