Adams, M.D. ’89 Honors College Amphitheatre Is Dedicated Alumni John and Sarah Adams graciously gifted the University with the John R. ’88 and Sarah A. Adams, M.D. ’89 Honors College Amphitheatre in October. John, who graduated from UA’s College of Business Administration in 1988, received the Distinguished Sales and Marketing Award in 2002. He served as president on the National Alumni Board, chairman of the Business Alumni Board and currently serves as a member of the College of Business Advancement Council. Sarah, an Akron area pediatrician, earned a bachelor’s degree in Natural Science from UA in 1989 and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Cincinnati. While at UA, Sarah was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and received the prestigious A-Key award. The Adams Amphitheater, situated behind the Honors College, will provide an area of introspection for students and community, and add to the expanding tranquility of the campus. School of Law Launches Continuing Education Initiative This fall, the School of Law formally launched its Continuing Education Initiative with its first offering, “How to Survive an ERISA Audit,” AMy GOODSON-BEAL on Sept. 10. More than 30 people attended the program, which offered CLE and CPE credits. The idea with this program, as well as programs going forward, is to reach out to professionals beyond the field of law. On Oct. 2, Akron Law partnered with the UA College of Business Administration and the China Resource Network for a program titled, “China Business Summit: Strategies for Managing a Global Recession.” The program featured speakers from Timken, Moen and Eaton. “Akron Law is more than an outstanding law school; we are a legal education center, providing the community at-large access to the law,” says Dean Martin H. Belsky. “The mission of Akron Law’s Continuing Education Initiative is to provide relevant, timely law-related education to non-lawyers and lawyers alike.” Leading the new initiative is Amy Goodson-Beal, Manager of Continuing Education, Annual Fund and Special Programs, and a 2002 graduate of the School of Law. Nursing Suite is Transformed This past summer, through the vision and generosity of Judge Harold White ’52, and the late Mrs. Jeannette White ’64, the Dean’s Suite in Mary Gladwin Hall was transformed to reflect the high caliber of the College of Nursing. Judge Harold White graduated from The University of Akron School of Law in 1952. He enjoyed a long and distinguished career in law before retiring as Judge for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Northern District in Ohio in 1994. He was recalled to service in 1997, and remains active in mediation for the courts. Judge White married his college sweetheart, Jeannette Murie, in 1943. Mrs. White was a teacher in the Akron Public Schools. As alumni of the University, the couple has given generously of their time, talents and resources to advance the institution and provide opportunities to nursing students through two scholarships they established in the College in honor of Mrs. White’s sister, Laura Murie Leafgren, and aunt, Edna C. Berry, both accomplished nurses; and to law students. From left: Andrew White, grandson of Judge White; Philip S.
