Earnest was randomly selected from 4,522 sign company registered entries. 500 first prize winners received Starbucks gift cards. Circle 157 3 HP Launches Worldwide HP Indigo Competition M announces its Wrap to Win contest, for vehicles wrapped in 3M products. Entries will be judged on aesthetic appeal, use of space, and professionalism of installation. Wrap a Rough Wall to Win! is the company’s newest contest. To qualify, designers must use 3M Scotchcal Graphic Film for Textured Surfaces IJ8624 and the companion overlaminate. Both products are suited for use on textured surfaces including concrete block, brick, and stucco. Lastly, 3M’s Signs of Success contest is targeted toward end users specializing in backlit signage. Not only will contestants be judged on design, but also on how well the sign helped owners promote their business. September 1 is the deadline for all contests. The winners of all three contests will be announced at SGIA in October. Circle 160 H P announces the 2008 HP Indigo Progressive Print Competition, showcasing high end color and image quality capabilities of its industry-leading HP Indigo commercial presses and liquid HP ElectroInk. Circle 158 Canon Expands U.S. Operations C anon joins VA and local officials to announce its plans to expand U.S. operations with new facilities and jobs in the Hampton Roads, VA area. With the assistance of the Commonwealth of VA, Canon is expected to invest more than $600 million to expand the operations of Canon Virginia Inc., a subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., and create more than 1,000 new jobs. Expansion plans include the construction of a new 700,000 square foot facility for the manufacturing of cartridges for laser printers that will incorporate Canon’s proprietary high speed, automated technology for cartridge production, and the expansion of its repair and refurbishing facilities for digital consumer products.
