A Period of Perspective: The Art of Gertrude Penfield Seiberling Twenty-five of Gertrude’s paintings will be on display for visitors to enjoy until Oct. 31, 2008. You can also take a piece of history home with you when you visit the Museum Store, where note cards and ornaments that feature paintings by Gertrude are available for purchase. You can also purchase raffle tickets to win a one-of-a-kind framed giclée of Gertrude’s “London Plane Tree Allée.” Tickets are $50 each or three for $100. All proceeds will benefit the Manor House Curatorial Fund. For more information, please call 330/315-3289. We often speak of the value of legacy gifts — gifts made by philanthropically minded individuals who make provisions for Stan Hywet or other charities in their wills or estate plans. The health and beauty of the newly restored London Plane Tree Allée has been ensured for future generations through one such gift. In August 2006, just as the restoration plan for the London Plane Tree Allée had been secured, our community unexpectedly lost a beloved patron of the arts. Paul Daum, professor of theater at The University of Akron, loved Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens and had become a member of the Seiberling Society several years prior to his death. (The Seiberling Society is a distinguished assembly of individuals who have remembered Stan Hywet in their wills or estate plans.) Dr. Daum made a provision in his will that a part of his estate would be used to restore Stan Hywet’s garden landscape; specifically, the funds bequeathed were for the major restoration efforts of one of landscape architect Warren Manning’s signature gardens at Stan Hywet. We are sincerely grateful to Dr. Daum. He a good friend to Stan Hywet during his lifetime, and his memory will live on infinitely thanks to his thoughtful planned gift. Dr. Daum’s generosity has been recognized permanently on the donor wall within Stan Hywet’s donor garden adjacent to the Carriage House.
