Around the Grounds May EvEnts May 8: The Pantry—Its History and Modern Uses—Lecture and book signing time: 6:30-8:30 pm Price: Free for members/ $5 for non-members The Pantry—Its History and Modern Uses throws open the doors of an interesting utilitarian space, revealing its historical evolution and nostalgic memories, as well as design inspirations and style tips for a pantry of your own. May 11: Mother’s Day time: 10 am-6 pm Spend this Mother’s Day walking around the grounds of Stan Hywet. May 15: Coming to Light—Viewing of the documentary/education program time: 6:30-8 pm Price: Free to members Join us for a viewing of Anne Makepeace’s documentary exploring the controversial photographer Edward S. Curtis. Coming to Light tells the dramatic story of Curtis’ life, his monumental work and his changing views of the people he set out to document. The film also gives Native Americans a voice in the discussion of Curtis’s images. ✂ May 16 & May 17: Plant Sale time: May 16: 5–7:30 pm, May 17: 10 am–4:30 pm Price: Free On May 16, members will have the unique opportunity to purchase annuals, perennials, tropical plants and flower before the public sale. On May 17, the doors will be open to the public. May 17: Family Friendly Day—History First Hand—Education Program time: 10 am–4:30 pm Price: Grounds admission Come enjoy a family-friendly day at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens with our wonderful History First Hand characters.You will be able to experience the Manor House in a whole new way, with friends and employees of the Seiberling Family from the 1920s. Chat with Mrs. Mansfield, a friend of Mrs. Seiberling’s, in the music room about the women’s right to vote issue, take notes from the Seiberling’s personal chef as he prepares a meal in the kitchen and learn the secrets behind the head housekeeper’s huge ring of keys. May 18: Educational series: Dr. Cheryl Charles of the Children & Nature Network time: 2 pm Price: Free Dr. Cheryl Charles will talk about the “leave no child inside” movement and other practical ideas on getting your kids to connect with nature.
