Graduate Prospects - March 5, 2008 - (Page 10) 10 PROSPECTS GRADUATE Issue 62 · 5 March · Fortnightly www.prospects.ac.uk Estimator (training position) South Manchester Costain Oil, Gas & Process Limited, part of the Costain Group, is an international process engineering contractor supplying engineering design, project management and construction expertise to the gas processing and nuclear fuel reprocessing sectors. We are looking for a graduate to join the estimating department to train as an Estimator. Estimating is a vital part of the company business both in tendering for new work and in preparing estimates as part of consultancy work to help clients plan their investments. The estimate types range from +/-30% concept estimates to fixed price estimates for projects from 100 man-hour studies to £100m multi discipline engineer, procure and construct gas plant projects. A qualified estimator’s responsibilities are to review an incoming invitation to tender, take part in the bid/no bid decision, prepare the estimating strategy, liaise with proposals, projects, engineering, commercial and purchasing departments, prepare material and construction estimates from basic engineering information, collate other departments estimate contributions, analyse the accuracy of the base information and the resulting accuracy of the estimate and recommend contingency levels, prepare a cashflow, present the estimate for senior management review, prepare tender submission schedules, and, for successful bids, handover the estimate as the basis for cost control. We require someone with an engineering qualification/background who has good communication and Excel skills. Training will include elements of Planning and Cost Control to support an NVQ in Project Controls leading to membership of the Association of Cost Engineers.
