The successful candidate will develop new techniques for joining large sections of polyethylene sheet on remote sites enabling large areas of water to be reliably covered. Plastipack Ltd, based in East Sussex, manufactures and sells cover materials for swimming pools and reservoirs. The company has recently successfully launched a new product, which was developed as part of a previous KTP project, and they now wish to review current technologies relating to the construction of polythene covers for areas above 1000m2. This post, as part of the government’s Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) scheme, will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to gain experience of working in an electro-mechanical applied research and development environment and to obtain specialist training in materials behavior, field trials strategy and electro-mechanical design techniques. Key Attributes: Bachelors degree at 2:1 or above in an appropriate scientific or engineering subject such as Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering. A higher degree would be an advantage, as would industrial experience.
