Graduate Prospects - December 10, 2008 - (Page 16) 16 PROSPECTS GRADUATE Issue 82 · 10 December 2008 · Fortnightly www.prospects.ac.uk Graduate Opportunity Electronic/Electrical Engineering/Applied Physics Salary circa £28,000 Applied Kilovolts Ltd, in collaboration with the University of Brighton, is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated graduate to play a major role in a strategic two year research and development project. The project is to develop techniques and equipment to measure very low noise levels and low levels of voltage drift over extended periods in HV power supplies. Applied Kilovolts, based in Worthing, West Sussex, are market leaders for HV, fast warm up, low noise DC power supplies operating at up to 60kV. A major part of its market is power-supply-critical applications such as mass spectrometry and low power x-ray equipment. Market demand is developing in such a way that power supply performance is becoming more critical, leading to a need for better performance power supplies and the associated need for the measurement of that performance. This opportunity, as part of the government’s Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) scheme, will offer the successful candidate the opportunity to work in a leading edge development environment driving forward the design of the next generation of power supply measuring equipment. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to register for an MPhil/PhD as part of this project if relevant. Previous applicants need not apply. Key attributes: Bachelors degree at 2:1 or above in an appropriate scientific or engineering subject such as Electronic/ Electrical Engineering, Measurements, Instrumentation or Applied Physics, as well as an ambition for spearheading a new development project. A higher technical degree would be an advantage, as would a relevant industrial placement or other industrial experience. The successful candidate is likely to possess a sound grounding in analogue electronics as well as an ability to research and develop new approaches to signal measurement. The package: Early responsibility for a high profile development project in a leading company, a generous dedicated personal development budget and the opportunity to register for a funded higher degree where appropriate.
