Operational research (OR) specialists advise on how to make the best possible use of public money across various government departments. With their skills in modelling, statistics and analysis, they help formulate government policy and find effective ways of putting it into practice. OR analysts answer vital questions, such as: How can we measure and improve the quality of service in education, health, social security and other public offices; How can we combat criminal attacks on Government systems; How can we reduce the impact of illicit drugs on the UK? This presentation highlights the diverse & challenging opportunities for numerate graduates in GORS, including opportunities in the North West. Wednesday 11th February Student Associates Scheme Presentation 13:00 - 14:00 tick to highlight Representatives from both Liverpool John Moores University and Edge Hill University will be on hand to speak with students who are looking to take part in the Student Associates Scheme. The scheme entails a 15-day placement working as a classroom assistant. Whilst most of the placements take place in June & July, there are opportunities throughout the year. A bursary of £40 is available for every day that you are in school, up to a total of £600. The scheme is a fantastic opportunity to gain more classroom experience, help raise the aspirations and achievements of young people and will greatly strengthen any application for teacher-training programs. The session aims to: • Identify the principles involved in making effective applications on paper and online; • Help you identify what you have to offer to an employer and how you can demonstrate it via an application form; • Enable you to gain an insight into the candidate pre-selection process. 7
