Welcome New Member

Describe the focus of your practice and any areas of special
interest/expertise.
I practice as an Internal Medicine Inpatient faculty member.
Additionally, I participate as a core member of our Street
Medicine team providing care to the homeless population of
downtown Reading.

T

he Berks County Medical Society is proud to
welcome Dr. Sarah Luber, a member of the RHS
Internal Medicine Faculty and Wellness Program
Director who also has a special commitment to providing
care to our community's homeless population. Dr. Luber
graduated from The Pennsylvania State University before
earning her medical degree from the Lake Erie College
of Osteopathic Medicine. After training in Internal
Medicine at the Reading Health System, she completed the
Global Health Certificate Program of The Johns Hopkins
Bloomberg School of Public Health. In her present position
she works on committees concerned with improving
population health, emergency response preparedness,
employee wellness, and patient safety. Dr. Luber was
recognized by the Pennsylvania Medical Society with a Top
Physicians Under 40 Award for 2017.
To get to know Dr. Luber better, we asked her to respond
to a few questions:

Why did you decide to practice medicine in Berks County?
I wanted to be a part of a community hospital where the
primary focus was on providing high quality service to the
community. I also wanted to be a part of a teaching group that
valued true mentorship, creativity, and mutual support among
the faculty. New ideas are accepted openly and often with
excitement. I always feel like I am growing at the
Reading Hospital.
What do you like best about practicing medicine?
I love hearing personal stories from my patients. Feeling
constantly connected to the community and to others on a
personal level makes being a doctor feel less like work and more
like one long "Story time with Sarah" session.
Are you involved in any nonprofit/community groups at
this time?
As part of the Street Medicine group, we collaborate closely
with the Berks Coalition for the Homeless, Salvation Army, City
Lights Mission, New Journey Soup Kitchen, and Hope Rescue
where we regularly provide volunteer services at their locations.
Also, as part of my position as Reading Hospital's Wellness
Program Director, I collaborate with the Friends of Reading
Hospital on fitness related events.
Please tell us a little about your family and the activities you
enjoy outside of work.
My two favorite hobbies include photography and
woodworking. I do both travel and portrait photography as often
as possible. With woodworking, I build mostly larger scale items
such as beds, tables, cabinets, etc., in my happy workshop. Both
are additional creative outlets where I get to work with my hands.
I also greatly enjoy yoga as it gets me physically moving while
allowing me time to self-reflect and bring back my inner calm.
