WILLS STRIKES GOLD
AT A10 TRACK
CHAMPIONSHIPS

Colin Wills of Upper Chichester,
a sophomore at George Washington
University, put together a dominating
performance at the recent Atlantic 10
Indoor Track & Field Championships held
on February 17-18 at the University of
Rhode Island in Kingston.
Wills captured the gold medal in
the men's mile with a winning time of
4:09:29 which set a new program record for George Washington
University.
The mile has been Wills' signature race throughout his
running career. While attending high school at Malvern Prep,
where he earned 12 varsity letters in track and cross country,
Wills set the school record in the mile with a time of 4:15.
During his senior year in 2016, Wills won in convincing fashion
the Inter Ac track championship in the boys' mile.
Wills began running competitively in elementary school
while attending St. Cornelius School in Chadds Ford. As an 8th
grade student in 2012, Wills qualified for the Archdiocese of
Philadelphia CYO track & field championships held at historic
Franklin Field and became the Archdiocesan Champion in the
boys' mile.

Wills earned a second gold medal
at the Atlantic 10 championships in the
men's Distance Medley Relay - arguably
the most prestigious relay race at the
event. The quartet of Wills (1200m) and
teammates Chris Schaffer (1600m), Ed
Delavergne (400m) and Carter Day (800m)
won the event in dominant fashion. The
team registered a time of 9:56:46, a mark
which shattered the previous GW program record (10:08:63),
Atlantic 10 record (9:57:64, 2014) and facility record (9:57:64,
Saint Joseph's University in 2014).
Wills also earned a spot on the prestigious Atlantic 10
Conference Indoor Track & Field All-Academic Team. The
Academic All-Conference Team is comprised of studentathletes who were selected based on their outstanding athletic
and academic performance. In the classroom, the sophomore
Business Administration major holds a 3.44 cumulative GPA
and is a three-time selection to the GW Department of Athletics
Dean's List. *
