They're Making It Legal...
O

n December 15, 2017 the area saw one of its first
snowfalls of the season. The Media Courthouse,
already decorated for the holiday season, was blanketed
by this snow, creating a picturesque background for two of
our bar association members to get engaged. A little after
6:00 p.m., Michael Hill got down on one knee in the snow and
proposed to his girlfriend Heather Hayes. And she said yes!
Both Michael and Heather work in the Delaware County
Courthouse in the District Attorney's Office and are both very
active within the Delaware County Bar Association. Michael
currently sits on the Board of Directors and is a past president
of our Young Lawyers' Section. Heather has participated
in numerous CLE seminars and events, and is the current
Treasurer of the Young Lawyers' Section.
We asked Michael how he proposed, and how he was able
to time the snow for the big moment. Michael said, "The snow
was a complete surprise but really worked out in my favor;
Heather thought we were just going to swing by the office
before going out to meet up with friends, and the entire time, I
was just trying to get us in front of the Courthouse steps to ask
her to marry me."
The planned proposal was in the works for a couple of
weeks and the location was always going be in front of the
Courthouse, that is where they first met over three years ago
and have worked together ever since. The date was also always
planned for that Friday; as Heather's best friend would be in
town and was able participate in the engagement by finding a
hiding spot outside of the Courthouse to capture the moment.
After Michael popped the question they popped open a bottle
of champagne and met up with their families and friends who
were stashed close by.
