aste Test is part restaurant incubator and part competition
series: aspiring restaurateurs pitch their concept ideas to a panel
of industry professionals and then audition them to the York
community. Diners provide feedback at these two week auditions held
at the Taste Test Cafe in the Royal Square Neighborhood. Did they
like what they tasted? Do they like the pricing structure? Would they
frequent a restaurant like this if it were a permanent fixture in the
York dining scene?
Chefs who had successful auditions move forward to round two: a
three month pop-up in the restaurant & bar side of the space where
they operate like a real restaurant with its own open hours and extensive menu.
At the end of the pop-up, the restaurant concept will have gained its
own following and will have a chance to crowdfund to the community
to open their own brick and mortar location and thus diversify the
Downtown York dining scene.

The space also has daily offerings: a cafe for breakfast and lunch in the
morning (101 S. Duke) and a bar for late night drinks (105 S. Duke)
to keep locals well fed and watered.
So what's next for York? Indian? A taco shop? French-Creole fusion?
It's anyone's guess and you're invited to be a part of the process.
