YORKTOWNE HOTEL: THE EVOLUTION
OF A COMMUNITY CORNERSTONE
In 1925 the Yorktowne Hotel opened its doors as the response to the community desire
to have a vibrant downtown hotel. In 2017, the evolution of the hotel is responding to the
same need-a vibrant piece of history that creates an economic boom.
In December 2015, the York County Industrial Development Authority (YCIDA) purchased
the hotel to breathe fresh life into the legendary downtown icon and has moved quickly
and deliberately towards a revitalization of the project. Not a simple task: to carefully follow the heritage preservation and evolve the hotel into a thriving business once
again. Bringing on partners Kinsley Construction, NuTec Design, JDB Engineering, and
AB Sketches and naming GF Management as operator has launched the project into
production.
The YCIDA has a pulse on the desires of the community and is taking into consideration
the need for parking, fine dining, housing and more at the hotel. As the design moves
forward, the community will see the evolution of the skyline of York City as portions of the
building are removed, portions are added, and the heritage of the Yorktowne evolves into
a modern, efficient operation for its next 100 years.
Additionally, the project will create an economic buzz with construction jobs, hotel
personnel and positions in a variety of professional categories. For all those who love the
Yorktowne, join us in the journey of evolution as the cornerstone of the community once
again becomes the dynamic, thriving pillar of Downtown.
