Explore Downtown Reading's Hidden Arts & Culture Gems
Downtown Reading is home to dozens of events weekly, and many
of them fall outside these "typical" venues. We'd be remiss if we
didn't use this opportunity to highlight a few of our favorites and
some of the underground arts and music events you can experience
in your own backyard.
* WCR Center for the Arts: This dainty townhouse along
N. 5th Street between Walnut and Washington Streets has
an Alice and Wonderland feel as you walk through the doors,
under the Tiffany lamp and into the one of the finest acoustic
venues available. Home to Friends of Chamber Music, this
once all-classical venue now hosts Reading Theater Project
performances, jazz nights, and concerts by local musicians.

* Live Music/Open Mic Nights at Sofritos Gastro Pub: Catch
some of your favorite local musicians and new up and coming
artists, plus great food and drinks at what may become your
favorite downtown spot, winter or summer.

* Noon-Day Recitals at Trinity Lutheran Church: Work
downtown and want to try a completely different lunch
experience? Held in the fall and spring each year on
Wednesdays at noon, Trinity lines up solo performers and
ensembles to treat your ears to a quick 30-minute recital.

* Reading Theater Project: It's like the History Channel meets
HBO meets something you've never seen before. Using all
original work by local writers, playwrights, and musicians,
Reading Theater Project uses theater to portray life as we know
it - the good, the bad, and the beautiful.
Performs throughout downtown Reading, West Reading,
Wyomissing, and beyond. Go to readingtheaterproject.org for most

* Guitar-A-Rama: Can't decide on your favorite guitar style?
At Guitar-A-Rama, there's no need to! Scheduled for Sunday,
June 23, at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts as part of Berks
Country Fest this all-day festival will bring flamenco, rock, and
other guitar genres under one roof for concerts and workshops.
