Great things are happening
in downtown Hamburg!

ver the past few months several businesses opened their doors in downtown
Hamburg, a trend that the Our Town Foundation, Hamburg's non-profit
community development organization, hopes will continue.

Bouchette Vineyards was the first to open last December
in a quaint storefront located at 16 South 4th Street. Owner Rich
Bouchette started making wine as a hobby eight years ago. In his
third year of experimenting people were asking him where they could
purchase his wine, so he started selling it at the Lebanon Farmers
Market in 2015. The demand became so great that he opened a
tasting room in Bethel.
Jerry Rotelle, a member of the Our Town Foundation's Economic
Development Committee, had the opportunity to taste Bouchette's
wines and hard ciders during an outdoor festival in 2016. Knowing
Downtown Hamburg needed a winery, he invited them to visit the
town and soon after plans were in the works to renovate the South
4th Street property to accommodate their needs.
They currently offer tastings and sell wine and hard ciders by the
glass or bottle Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. They
hope to expand their hours in the near future.

The Bismarck B & B, located at 63 N. 4th Street in the
Hamburg Historical District, offers three guest rooms with private
bathrooms and homemade breakfast. Officially launched in January
2018, the guest rooms are sophisticated and stylish, featuring King or
Queen beds. Glass lighting accents, period antiques and photography
from Germany and France enhance the decor. The guest rooms are
beautifully furnished to provide modern comforts any guest would
look for, while retaining the Old-World charm of the house.
A healthy breakfast paired with a sweet treat can always be expected.
Raspberry Stuffed French Toast and Old Fashioned Biscuits and
Gravy are some of the favorite offerings. Fresh herbs adorn breakfast
while flowers from the beautiful gardens adorn the tables.
Charlotte Golden and George Holmes bought this special home
in 2015 with every intention of sharing this piece of history with
all who will enjoy it as much as they do. The house is named in
memory of their beloved German Shorthaired Pointer, Bismarck.
