Coast Erosion Control is looking at an
aggressive five-year plan for continued success.

Led by President Diane (Hitt) Smith, the
Upper Tulpehocken Township-based company
produces a variety of erosion control products
that are distributed in more than 20 countries
on six continents.

"He needed the blankets at his construction
sites, but at that time you couldn't get quality
product in a timely manner," explained (Hitt)
Smith, 47, who was initially hired to work in the
company's accounting department.

East Coast also offers clients a custom-designed product
calculator to help engineers and designers determine site-specific
conditions and choose the product that will offer the best results.
"We've experienced tremendous growth, but our values have
never changed," (Hitt) Smith said. "We are a manufacturer of choice
as we deliver a quality product with excellent customer service."
The company was founded in
2002 after changes to the Clean
Water Act created an increased
need for erosion control products.

construction firm, was having
difficulty locating erosion control
products for the company's

The new company purchased the equipment necessary to
produce erosion blankets, and orders for the product skyrocketed.
Early growth was rapid, and company officials found it difficult
to keep up with the demand for their products. The firm moved
to its current location in 2004, where it has greatly increased its
production capacity.
East Coast also has a
production facility in Lake
City, South Carolina, which
was established in 2005. It
was damaged by a fire in
2015, but has been completely
refurbished and expanded.
