"To understand the Berks County Career Pathways
Alliance, imagine a school district where students begin
learning about the world of work in elementary and middle
school. Imagine that in high school, learners are guided
through rigorous, 21st century-aligned curriculum in a career
pathway model that matches their interests, aptitudes, and
strengths to appropriate academic and technical courses.
Learning now makes sense and is more engaging because
it connects to their interests and goals. Imagine that these
students gain 'real world' experiences through authentic
internships, job shadows, and other experiences at area
businesses. In addition, students have opportunities to
explore post-secondary options and earn college credit and
industry-recognized credentials. Imagine these opportunities
being developed with input and expertise from 18 school
districts and industry advisory groups in Berks County, and
that these opportunities are available to all 70,000 students
in Berks County. This is the Berks County Career Pathways
Alliance. As a result of this highly collaborative approach, each
school district in the county, regardless of its size or resources,
has access to career pathway
models, career education
materials, and work-based
learning connections to
prepare their students for
life after high school."
