Kutztown:

New Faces and New
Energy in Kutztown
Maggie Stange, Kutztown Community Partnership

K

utztown Community Partnership (KCP) welcomes Sandy Green,
former Mayor of Kutztown, in her first weeks as Community
Liaison. This position, supported by the Borough of Kutztown
and Kutztown University, plays a critical role in developing and
enhancing strategic partnerships between the Borough, the University,
Kutztown Area School District, Kutztown Community Partnership, the
Northeast Berks Chamber of Commerce
and regular interaction with businesses, students, residents, elected officials
and the media. Green will focus on
marketing and economic development,
seek grant opportunities, business retention and enhancement, and leveraging
partnerships.
The success of a thriving downtown
community is not by accident, but by
the dedication of local residents, business
owners, and community leaders that are willing to take the next step
to define a clear, shared vision for the future of Kutztown.
"I've lived in Kutztown my whole life and it is a safe and great
place to visit," said Mayor Jim Schlegel. "Thanks to the dedication
of our residents, Kutztown's community continues to grow into a
great place to be."

Subcommittees and action groups like Kutztown Strong, Kutztown
Thriving, Peace.Love.Kutztown, KUBoK, and Safe, Clean & Green
take on the challenges to fill the community with ideas and positive
change to make Kutztown a community that feels safe, inviting, and
a place to call home.
KCP recognizes a need for something unique with a broad appeal
that makes Kutztown a place people want to come to visit. With
alleyways and side streets begging to house free and accessible public
art and the help of local artists and Kutztown University, KCP looks
to incorporate Kutztown's past into its future.
KCP continues to connect with property owners and community
planners to redevelop and centralize housing listing to make it both
accessible and affordable. With a change in the student population,
a focus will be to address the needs and desired improvements to
housing in the Borough Business District.

In Green's new role, she also plans to
focus on the cultivation of an amazing
hospitality scene including unique
restaurants and a variety of retail experiences. Downtown is abundant with
independently owned stores bringing
forth the opportunity to shop small.
"A visit to Kutztown is a world class
experience," Green stated. "By working
to enhance and recruit new and old
businesses, growing our rich art scene,
and partnering with local change makers we will place Kutztown
on the map."
