time in front of a computer screen and was not eating well. She
also continued to experience issues with her digestion and overall
reported not feeling well. Her physician then delivered the news
that it was very likely she would need surgery to remove a section
of her intestines. After months of denying her health was at risk,
she began participating in PK wellness events including lunch and
learns and wellness challenges in hopes of altering her lifestyle and
improving her health. The employee has since joined and is the
chair of her company wellness committee.
As a result of her lifestyle changes, she has not only improved
her own health but has been instrumental in motivating and
supporting her coworkers by sharing her experience. She now
exercises regularly; running 12-18 miles per week. She has lost 36
pounds and 4 dress sizes. Her last lab results showed completely
normal blood levels in all categories and she has reached a healthy
body mass index. The best news is that she has been able to avoid
the surgery her doctor had previously felt would be necessary. To
date she has developed a love for running and has completed
three 5ks and one 10k, and is currently training for her first half
marathon.
PK Wellness Matters creates excitement and increases
participation by focusing on current trends and national priorities
surrounding health and wellness. The health promotion activities
for our clients are developed from participant needs and their
personal health and wellness interests. PK tracks the progress of
participants on an individual basis, provides a company aggregate
report, and maintains strict confidentiality of the participants.
Additionally, Lori is also able to use her knowledge and experience
from the clinical side of nursing to break down claims information
provided by the health insurance carriers and determine wellness
initiatives that will have the greatest impact in reducing health care
costs.
In addition to the development of a customized wellness
program, day to day management and tracking, health coaching,
data collection and reporting, PK also offers biometric screenings.
We believe a biometric screening is one of the most effective
benefits employers can offer as part of their wellness program.
The gathering of data through bloodwork and measurements
as well as generating risk scores has proven to be very impactful
in providing awareness. We are CLIA (Clinical Laboratory
Improvement Amendment) certified by the State of Pennsylvania
to conduct laboratory testing. Included in a biometric screening is
a cholesterol panel which includes: total cholesterol, HDL, LDL
and triglycerides, glucose, blood pressure, height, weight and body
mass index. Participants receive immediate print outs of their test
results and health coaching with a Registered Nurse. Employees
identified with elevated health risks are encouraged to share their
results with their primary care provider. In addition, PK offers
therapeutic lifestyle change programming that is based on effective
behavior change concepts.
PK Wellness Matters is much more than a wellness program.
We strive to help employees understand the importance of
accountability for their lifestyle choices, and how to be better
consumers of their health while offering the tools and education to
make good decisions that lead to better health. We are constantly
assessing the needs of our clients and service area. Our most recent
