rowing up across from F&M,
I would not have expected
Harrisburg Avenue to be the
culinary standout it is today.
To be fair, it was mostly a landfill. Now it's
become my favorite destination for sushi
(Oka Fusion), beer (The Fridge), pizza
(Rosa Rosa) and finer dining (Checkers/
John Jeffries). After my latest visit with my
wife, I can add Hunger N Thirst to the list
for an exceptional gastropub experience.
To start, I was impressed with the
unique selection of craft beers. Our waiter
spontaneously offered to serve half-sized
drafts, allowing us to sample the beer list
variety. We shared the Chef 's Board, a
nice mix of cheeses and meats. We really
enjoyed the cherry chutney and candied
almonds served alongside it.

The menu is small, but I actually prefer
this. My wife had the tacos, filled with
flank steak and toppings. Three different
sauces offered authentic tex-mex flavors
that paired nicely with the steak. I chose
the PEI Mussels and was in for the best
surprise of the evening. The mussels were
mixed with a Thai-inspired curry chili
sauce, which was outstanding and a great
alternative from the usual red marinara
sauce. We ordered a side of fries, drizzled
with rosemary oil and romano cheese,
which came with an excellent salsa verde
dipping sauce. I did think they were too
salty, however.
After dinner, we checked out the
marketplace attached to the restaurant.
There you can find provisions to create
your own Hunger N Thirst experience at
home. The marketplace has a deli counter
stocked with premium meats, cheeses, and

condiments and a fridge filled with desserts
and drinks. We were tempted to buy a
pint of the famous Graeter's ice cream
but decided we treated ourselves enough
that night. Across from the marketplace
is the bottle shop. While not as expansive
as The Fridge, it offers a nice selection of
unique craft beers to take home.
