Member Spotlight

Where do you practice and why did you settle in your
present location or community?
I work at Manor Family Health Center in Millersville, which appealed to
me because it had been an established, foundational practice in Millersville for decades. The community has a wonderful mix of patients from
the college, surrounding farmland, and nearby businesses. Our phone
staff answers the phone by saying, "Manor Family," and indeed, our staff
and physicians are more like a family than I could have imagined.
What do you like best about practicing medicine?
Family practice is all about long-term relationships with patients and
their families, and I find that to be increasingly rewarding the longer I
practice. We see people at the best times of their lives, and sometimes
at very difficult times. The fact that we are trusted to share those events is
humbling. And those experiences create an emotional bond that I value
more and more as time goes on.
Are you involved in any community, non-profit, or professional organizations? If so, please list the groups:
In addition to the medical society, I'm also a member of the AAFP and
PAFP, organizations which represent family physicians. I helped to lead
PALCO, a nonprofit group devoted to improving medical access for Lancaster County patients. Now I spend much of my time with my fantastic
Physicians Allliance, Ltd. colleagues, helping to make our organization
and our EMR run as efficiently as possible.

DAVID
EMMERT, MD

What are your hobbies and interests when you're
not working?
I spend a lot of time attending the performances of my sons, who are
involved in many musical and stage activities both at Lampeter-Strasburg
High School and at Haverford College. I sing in our church choir weekly.
I run 20-25 miles per week, and typically participate in a few races each
year as well. And I have season tickets to watch my Washington Redskins
football team lose more than their share of games each year.
For what reason(s) did you become a member of the
Lancaster City & County Medical Society and what do
you value most about your membership?
Nik Zervanos required our membership in residency and even "volunteered" me for the residency board seat for a few years. I am grateful he
did. I've met many wonderful physicians, and I count my time helping
to lead the society as some of the most valuable of my career. I credit
my participation with helping to educate me about important advocacy
issues for patients and physicians alike, and remain interested in supporting those efforts today.
