LifeGuard and KSTAR
Collaborate to Offer CMEs
LifeGuard, a nationally recognized clinical skills assessment program
sponsored by the Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society,
partners with KSTAR, a similar program offered through the Rural &
Community Health Institute at Texas A&M University, to offer CME
collaborations to physicians and other medical professionals.
Two upcoming course offerings are designed to enhance knowledge and
provide in-depth information on two key areas: medical record maintenance and prescribing
practices.
"This partnership offers a national educational program aimed at enhancing medical
practice," said LifeGuard Program Director Marcia Lammando, RN, BSN, MHSA. "Faculty
will examine important topics from legal, regulatory, medical ethics, documentation and
prescribing challenges in today's healthcare environment, and patient safety issues. Medical
professionals will gain real-time easily implemented knowledge for improvement through
these courses."

This two-day, in-person course offers 16.25 CME hours and will help participants improve
their ability to maintain medical records efficiently and accurately. Attendees will learn how
to keep records in a manner that improves quality of care, meets compliance standards and
reduces risk to the healthcare provider.
Attendees will also learn how to identify potential pitfalls regarding documentation and
use electronic health records more effectively. Once participants complete this course, they
will have a thorough understanding of the legal implications associated with medical record
documentation. Due to the interactive nature of the course, it will be limited to a maximum
of 20 participants.

This three-day educational course offers 21.25 Category 1 CME hours. Physicians, nurse
practitioners, pharmacists and other medical professionals who prescribe or have contact with
medicines can improve their knowledge of medication-prescribing practices.
Participants will learn how to identify alternative pain management strategies that
could potentially be abused and receive an update on recent changes in state law regarding
prescriptive authority agreements. The course will also include a review of some of the
optimal management practices for common sources of chronic pain, ways to improve patient
adherence with medications and more.
