PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

M

uch has happened in the 90 fleeting days since I became President of the
Montgomery Bar Association. Unless you live under a rock, you KNOW
the Eagles won Super Bowl LII. As World Champions, this Eagles team
transformed from perpetual underperformers to beloved underdogs and America's
team. In the midst of four major snowstorms (preceded by Punxatawney Phil's dire
prediction), Super Bowl madness, and the Winter Olympics, the MBA staff and
leadership were busy planning events, helping with mock trials, refining the calendar
and engaging members.

As I look at the 2018 calendar, I am amazed at the hard work of all who contribute
to make the MBA an overwhelming success, including, but not limited to, the MBA
staff, members of the Judiciary, MBA leadership, sections, committees, and the 2,100
members. Clearly, the MBA functions with a collaborative approach in launching
the many wonderful events, CLEs, initiatives and services to its members and the
public. One such spectacular event will be the 2018 Law Day celebration. As part of
the MBA Law Day celebration on May 1, 2018, we are honored to have the Superior
Court Judges present an outstanding CLE entitled A View From the Bench: Appellate
Law with the Experts. It will be a unique opportunity to learn appellate practice,
procedures, hot topics and frequently asked questions from the source - Appellate
Judges. President Judge Susan Peikes Gantman, Judge Lillian Harris Ransom, Judge
Maria McLaughlin and Superior Court Chief Staff Attorney Phil Yoon, Esq., will serve
as expert panelists sharing their knowledge and expertise on various appellate issues.
After the seminar, the MBA Law Day Service will be in Courtroom "A," followed by a
lunch celebration at the MBA Building. Don't miss an opportunity to see the Superior
Court live on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, as President Judge Gantman, Judge Ransom
and Judge McLaughlin hear arguments from a variety of cases in Court Room "A" in
the Montgomery County Court House. Be sure to invite your colleagues, interns, law
students and anyone interested to attend the arguments and observe the appellate court
at work. Certainly, it will be an educational experience for all.
