MCAP Appreciates
ALL Who Give!
By Mary C. Pugh, Esq.

A

dvocates are the heart and soul of Montgomery Child Advocacy Project
(MCAP); their time and dedication to the children of Montgomery
County are essential to giving abused and neglected children back
their voices. Every child deserves a chance to grow up in a safe and nurturing
environment. MCAP advocates give children a voice in the legal process and
ensure they get that chance.
On May 4, 2017, MCAP hosted an appreciation luncheon for all of its
advocates and supporters, including the esteemed Judges of Montgomery
County, the County Commissioners, law enforcement, social service agencies, the
advocates and MCAP Board of Directors. With over 110 people in attendance,
MCAP celebrated its volunteer attorneys and all who collaborate to help child
victims learn to heal and trust.
Because of the expertise and volunteerism of our advocates, MCAP helped
more children in 2016 than in any other year. In 2016, MCAP served 533
children overall in 422 cases. We served forty percent more children than in 2015.
Overall, in 2016, MCAP donated about $1,351,700 in legal services to abused
children. Consistent with prior years, MCAP attorneys represented children in
all of the legal arenas, namely, Juvenile Court, Orphans' Court, Civil Court and
Criminal Court. We thank our 128 active child advocates for volunteering their
time and offering their expertise to abused and neglected children.
