MBA Launches Professional
Development Series
B

uilding on efforts to support the important work of
its valued community partners, the Montgomery Bar
Association recently launched its innovative Professional
Development Series. Through a pilot program with the county's
Department of Health and Human Services ("DHHS"), the
MBA will conduct leadership development workshops for 14 of
the department's emerging leaders, focusing on essential skills
such as communication, self-awareness, employee and client
engagement, networking, problem-solving, and team building,
as well as important substantive topics such as employment
law. Jim Walters, Integrative Services Administrator of the
DHHS, contracted the Bar's services after a communication
workshop presented by the MBA received enthusiastic reviews.
Walters states: "I am very excited that this program provides our
emerging leaders with skills and tools to be effective in leadership
roles, but I am more excited that it will develop effective and
long-lasting working relationships between the participants."
Both the DHHS and the MBA are exciting about the pilot and
enthusiastic about the potential of this burgeoning partnership.
Modeled after the MBA's award-winning Leadership
Academy, the Professional Development Series offers customized
training for organizations who understand the importance
of building next-generation leaders who can navigate the

increasingly complicated demands they will face each day.
Participants will:
* Enhance a broad range of leadership skills, including
those relating to effective communication, motivation and
connection;
* Develop a strong awareness of individual strengths,
weaknesses, behaviors and traits, and the ability to use
this knowledge to create strong team dynamics in various
professional and personal settings;
* Foster professional relationships within their organizations
and throughout the greater community, thus increasing
engagement and investment; and
* Provide current leaders of participating organizations fresh
perspectives and valuable insights.
