NOT UNIQUE TO BASEBALL, THE
EQUIPMENT USED FOR THE CATCHER
POSITION MAY SERVE AS A MODEL
FOR FUTURE DEVELOPMENT.
Researchers in Boston, MA studied more
than 10 combinations of chest protector
materials and concluded thickness of the
protector was most related to protection
from commotion cordis, but material
didn't matter.
Trauma and emergency care continues to
move closer to the front lines. Immediate
responders (bystanders) are incredibly
impactful on survival with the right training and knowledge. Increased awareness
of CPR and AED use has confirmed this
over the last decade as we have observed
improved survival from Commotio
cordis. With increased awareness about
the disease process, we hope to approach
zero preventable deaths and improve
survival further.
