SUMMER/ FALL 2018 LCMS Members Are you up to date? EVER WONDER HOW YOUR DOCTORS STAY CURRENT ON THE LATEST MEDICAL DEVELOPMENTS? Through a process called CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION (CME), doctors continue to learn long after they've completed formal training in medical school and residency. Not only is CME a great idea to make sure doctors know the newest medical breakthroughs-it's required. Pennsylvania licensing requirements dictate all physicians must complete CME hours to keep their license in good standing. Here is what some local doctors have been doing: WHO? Dr. Donna Eget WHO? Dr. Kevin Olson WHAT? The Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association 2018 Clinical Assembly WHERE? King of Prussia, PA WHEN? May 2-5, 2018 Dr. Eget gave a presentation entitled "A Community Response to the Opioid Epidemic" at the POMA annual clinical assembly. The lecture summarized the work of the Lackawanna County Opiate Coalition in bringing together diverse members of the community to help combat the opiate overdose crisis. Speaking to a statewide audience is a way to help coordinate the efforts of the many people working toward reducing opioid overdose deaths. WHAT? The New York Cardiovascular Symposium sponsored by The American College of Cardiology WHERE? New York City WHEN? December 2017 Dr. Olson joined 2,000 fellow cardiologists at meetings to discuss topics like the use of emerging technology such as vascular 3-D ultrasound and genetic evaluations in the care of coronary artery disease, as well as new approaches to management of aortic and mitral valve disease, and abnormal heart rhythms. Dr. Olson tries to attend this conference every year because it's close by and offers cutting edge information from researchers around the world for him to use in treating his patients here in NEPA.
